“You Have a New (Facebook) Friend Suggestion”

Facebook Gets Serious About Users’ Privacy. Not.

I’m gonna guess that I’m not the first one to receive the Facebook notification, “you have a new friend suggestion,” and think it came from the prospective new friend.

And because I’m a nice guy, and didn’t want to offend a genuine, real-life acquaintance, clicked on the button to become Facebook friends.

“Gotcha!”

Only after hitting “Send” did I belatedly realize it was Facebook mining my data, then “helpfully” making suggestions based on the number of overlapping friends I already share with other Facebook users.

Somehow, I’m dubious that Facebook has gotten religion about policing users’ privacy, and is now going to clean up its act . . .
